The Mull of Galloway Festival
The Mull of Galloway Trust is planning a celebration to mark the first anniversary of the Community Buy-out at Scotland’s most southerly point and to thank the local community for its support.
The 30 acre site and all buildings, with the exception of the Tower which remains operational, were sold by the Northern Lighthouse Board to the Mull of Galloway Trust after it secured more than £300,000 of funding. The official handover took place on 4 July 2013 at the Mull of Galloway with Ian Webster from Northern Lighthouse Board opening the gate for the community.
During the second weekend of August 2014 the Mull of Galloway Trust is planning to celebrate the first anniversary with a special festival weekend.
The Festival will officially be opened on Friday 8 August by Maureen Chand, Chairperson of the Mull of Galloway Trust and Vicki Adams, Olympic Bronze Medal winner. Local crafters from the Kirkmaiden area and further afield will be displaying and selling their crafts during the weekend, together with tales from former lighthouse keepers, guided walks, lots of activities for all the family to enjoy and great live music on Sunday 10th August.
The Lighthouse Tower and Exhibition will be operating as usual but will be free of charge throughout the weekend.

11am to 5pm Craft stalls open, childrens face painting, sand art, candy floss with Talk of the Town events
11.15am Talk – former Lighthouse keeper – George McDermid
11.15am Children’s story telling in the RSPB visitor centre with Jayne Baldwin and Shalla Gray “Big Bill’s Beltie Bairns”
12.30pm – Corn dollies with Murray Irving (craft marquee)
12.30pm Talk – Rhinns forgotten Air disaster by Sandy Rankin
1pm RSPB Guided Walk
2pm Talk – U boats in WW1 by Julia MacDonald

Gallie Craig has a “Pop up Café” at the Lighthouse and will be serving drinks and snacks throughout the Festival weekend. There will also be the regular menu available from the Gallie Craig as well as a take away menu.
Throughout the weekend, RSPB will also be running fun activities and demonstrations – including

• Moth and mammal trapping and animal/bird print trapping
• Treasure trail
• Tombola
• Festival mural
